Rose Petal Silk is an incredible botanical alternative to real silk. But what’s the problem with real silk, you may ask. Well, real silk is retrieved from silk worms through exploitative and rigorous practices that are obstructive to the animal itself and also to the environment. Many vegans do not wear silk for this reason.
When we were creating the Las Islas collection, we knew that we wanted to incorporate a silk-like dress without the use of actual silk. The Wildflower ethos is to create low-impact clothing that’s sustainable and timeless, which includes the protection of the vulnerable silk worm! Through many days and nights of extensive research and testing, we found an incredible alternative that’s just as liquid-like and glossy as the real deal, and it comes from rose petals!
Now for the science bit: rose silk is made from rose bushes. The petal fibre is extracted from natural waste from rose petals and bushes. It’s stripped and processed to create a luxurious silk-like fabric that’s sustainable, biodegradable, eco-friendly and extremely light and comfortable to wear. It’s so soft to the touch – we don’t think you’d ever guess it was made from anything but real silk!
The Rosa dress comes in two colourways: Champagne and Navy. We love it styled with small heels and clutch for a gorgeous date night look, or with sandals, a large linen tote bag and sunglasses for a day at the beach.
